Home page on Samsung Galaxy Tab E changed by Google Now Launcher

Well, of all the things to wake up to on a Sunday morning.  My Samsung Galaxy Tab E looked completely different today……….. and I had NO idea how I had done it!  At some point the day before when I hit the middle home button, I got a prompt to choose which launcher to use.  I had NEVER had that show up previously so I didn’t pay much attention. I clicked on the right hand one just to be done with it, which turned out to be the Google Now Launcher instead of my usual (as I found out later) TouchWiz Home.

My home page went from this:

Samsung Galaxy Tab E default home page
This is the default home page using TouchWiz Launcher

to this!

Samsung Galaxy Tab E default home page using Google Now Launcher
This is the default home page produced by Google Now Launcher

Even my Flip Briefing News App had disappeared and was replaced by Google cards.  Oh the joy of Googling and troubleshooting the whole of Saturday and into Sunday morning!  I didn’t even know the name of the launcher I had clicked on, nor the fact that it was even a LAUNCHER.  It’s pretty hard to Google something when you don’t even know the words to Google with!  Haha!

Eventually I did find a solution.  There might be others, but this totally worked for me.  Having done all the legwork for you, here is the solution in a nutshell:
1.  Go to Play Store and search for HomeSmack.
2.  Download and install it.
3.  Open it to view your choices
You should be seeing something like this:

HomeSmack Default Home Page Launcher
HomeSmack Home Page Launcher

4.  Click on Select Default (bottom right)
5.  Then choose which Launcher you wish to use

HomeSmack App for changing default home page view
Choose your default Home Page Launcher here.

That’s it…….. you’re done!  Now aren’t you glad you found this page!
